NTU Archives

The NTU Archives houses documents and publications dating back to as early as 1945 which record the history of NTU’s academic developments. After being relocated to its current site on the Shuiyuan campus in August 2007, an Archives Display Space was established to make use of these documents, which used to be considered archived files, and give them new life as a piece of the timeline puzzle which reflect the traces of history. With the archives off the shelves, the NTU Archives has also made great efforts to revitalize the records and showcase curatorial creativity and maintenance technology so as to genuinely present the development of the University.

Every year, the NTU Archives organizes exhibitions during the NTU Azalea Festival, the University Anniversary, and the National Archives Month, attracting visitors from a variety of sectors. The creative idea of combining administrative documents with art and culture enhanced the educational function of the archives and is praised as a benchmark, signifying recognition of NTU’s efforts to conserve its archives.

In July 2015, the NTU Archives became the first cross-disciplinary university archives in Taiwan. Its main exhibition goal is to allow visitors to “observe history and relish art via the archives.” Also, based on the scientific management of archives, three facets of development have been constructed, including 1) Archives Display, which presents the stories in the official documents and echoes with other forms of art; 2) Archive Maintenance, which aims to repair important damaged documents on and off campus, collect archives made with traditional handicraft techniques, and extend these elements to handicraft creative art from volunteers; and 3) Archives Souvenirs, which allows artists to make value-added products out of archival elements for exhibition and sale to promote the humanistic spirit of the University. With the integration of information technology and innovation, the NTU Archives will continue to present multi-cultural values in the 21st century.
